PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Rebels earn 52-45 victory over RTR

TYLER — Murray County Central picked up a big road victory on Friday, defeating the No. 4-ranked team in Class A Russell-Tyler-Ruthton 52-45.

Jack Pierson led the way for MCC with 19 points and six rebounds.

Nate Everson added 12 points in the win, while Justin Benda finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Cooper Hansen led RTR with 24 points and eight rebounds.

MCC (5-0) travels to Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey on Tuesday while RTR (4-1) hosts No. 1-ranked Minneota on Tuesday.

WORTHINGTON — Marshall used a strong second-half performance to cruise to a 72-47 win at Worthington on Friday night.

The Tigers held a seven-point halftime lead before outscoring the Trojans 37-19 in the second half.

Matt Onken led the way for the Tigers with 18 points. Bryce Paulsen added 11 points, while Noah Puetz finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Marshall (2-1) travels to Jackson County Central on Tuesday.

DB held a nine-point lead at half before it was outscored 27-12 in the second half.

Alex Sather led the Blackjacks with 23 points and 10 rebounds in the loss, while Mary Bothun finished with seven points.

DB (2-4) travels to Wabasso on Monday.

Saphi McFarquhar led Marshall with an all-around score of 35.1. She scored a 9.15 on the floor exercise while adding an 8.85 on the balance beam.

Cameen McFarquhar placed fifth in all-around with a total score of 32.475.

Marshall hosts St. James Area on Dec. 21.

WABASSO – The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton/Westbrook-Walnut Grove and Wabasso/Red Rock Central wrestling teams competed in a triangular meet on Thursdsay, with TMB/WWG picking up two wins (44-24 over Wabasso/RRC, 43-23 over Windom/Mountain Lake Area) and Wabasso/RRC falling to Windom/MLA 47-23.

For TMB/WWG, against Wabasso/RRC, Devin Carter, Alexander Schuh, Anthony Axford and Austin Axford all earned pins while Ayden Horner and Levi Ellingson won by forfeit and Dereck Ellingson and Tyler Vandendriessche won by major decision. For Wabasso/RRC, Josh Hesse, Jared Schroepfer and Calvin Anderson won by decision to lead the way.

For TMB/WWG, against Windom/MLA, Carter, Horner, Sawyer Schwartz, Austin Axford and Jace Paplow won by pin while Levi Ellingson won by major decision.

SLAYTON – The Murray County Central girls basketball team defeated Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 60-40 on Thursday.

Ines Rios Rus led the way for MCC with 20 points while Montana Beckmann added 12 and Brianna Schmitz had nine. Rios Rus led in rebounds with nine while Beckmann led in steals with eight.

Samantha Edwards led the way for TMB with 13 points while Jadyn Lessman and Mariah Mayer each added seven. Edwards led in rebounds with nine while Lessman and Edwards each led in steals with three.
