PREP GIRLS HOCKEY: Marshall opens Schwan’s Cup with 3-1 victory over University School of Milwaukee
BLAINE – The Marshall girls hockey team kicked off its Schwan’s Cup Tournament with a 3-1 victory over University School of Milwaukee Wednesday.
The Tigers were able to get on the board to start things off, as Sydney Mauch got the assist from Tessa Gannott and found the back of the net to give Marshall a 1-0 lead, an advantage the Tigers took into the second period.
Neither team would be able to find scoring in the second frame, but Marshall quickly added to its advantage with a pair of goals in the third, starting with a power-play score from Kaitlyn Timm on the assist from Olivia Peterson nearly five minutes into the third to make it 2-0.
USM was able to cut the deficit to 2-1 with a goal with 2:40 left to play, but the Tigers quickly put the game away with a minute to go, as Leah Schaefer scored on an empty-netter to push Marshall to a 3-1 victory.
USM outshot Marshall 36-18 on the game. Emma Klenken earned the victory in net, stopping 35 shots.
