YOUTH HOCKEY ROUNDUP: Marshall Bantam A hockey splits pair of games over the weekend

MARSHALL – The Marshall Bantam A hockey team went 2-2 on the weekend in the Albert Lea Tournament, taking fourth place.

On Friday evening, the Tigers beat Albert Lea by a score of 5-3. Wyatt Boerboom lead the way for the Tigers with four goals, while goalie Lincoln Mellenthin tallied 43 saves. In Game 2, the Tigers took on Fremont, NE. Trailing 2-1 with 6:25 in the third period, Marshall staged a comeback off two late goals by Sean Nwaiga.

Then, the Tigers fell 8-1 to Kansas City (AA) and 6-2 to Waukesah, WI. The team resumes play this Saturday at Red Baron Arena at 4 p.m. vs. Redwood Falls.

Squirt B team

The Marshall Squirt B hockey team fell to Luverne on Saturday, 5-3 to move to 0-2 on the season. Luverne scored one in the first period, but Marshall’s Xander Oey tied the game 1-1 at the 12-minute mark of the second period.

Luverne regained the lead a few minutes later, but Henry Horvath knotted the game at two all with just under six minutes left in the second with an assist from Dylan Steilen.

Luverne started the third period with three goals in under two minutes. Steilen scored for Marshall with an assist from Oey late in the period, but the Squirt B team was unable to overcome the deficit. Colby Allen and Taedan Smith combined for 13 saves for Marshall in the loss.

The Squirt B squad also fell to Redwood Falls 12-3 to open the season on Nov. 10. Dylan Steilen, Selby Anderson and Andrew Bot fond the back of the net for Marshall while Taedan Smith and Colby Allen made 22 combined saves in the loss.

The Squirt B team will be in action again this weekend when they play host to Lakes Area at 5:30 p.m. this Saturday and New Ulm/Sleepy Eye on Sunday. Both games will be on the Lockwood Rink at the Red Baron Arena and Expo.
