SMSU CROSS COUNTRY: Aidrus earns All-NSIC honors at conference championships
ABERDEEN, S.D. – Southwest Minnesota State’s Bashir Aidrus earned All-NSIC honors for the second straight season after recording a sixth place finish at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Men’s Championships at Lee Park Golf Course on Saturday.
Aidrus, who last season became the first SMSU runner to earn All-NSIC honors at the Division II level with a sixth place finish, covered the 8,000 meter course in a time of 24:35. Aidrus helped SMSU finish the championship in 10th place in the 12-team race with a total of 279 points.
Steven Brown from the University of Sioux Falls won the individual title with a time of 24:11. USF captured the men’s team championship with 32 points, finishing ahead of second place Augustana by 21 points.
John Wyatt Reece finished 63rd overall with a time of 26:47 for the second best time for the Mustang men’s team. Clayton Hartle finished 67th with a time of 27:07, Dylan Pierson placed 71st at 27:27, while Ben Broze finished 72nd at 27:28. Brett Attenberger and Chase Hamilton also scored for SMSU with Attenberger running 27:35 to finish 74th, while Hamilton was 76th with a time of 27:39.
In the women’s 6,000 meter race, UMary’s Jaiden Schuette earned the individual title with a time of 21:10. The Marauders won the team championship with a score of 16.
The SMSU women’s team finished 12th out of 15 teams with 329 points.
Kayla Jansky was SMSU’s highest finisher placing 56th with a time of 23:41. Skyler Jacobson and Avery Lester finished 74th and 75th crossing the line at 24:18 and 24:20 respectively. Emily Daniels finished 87th at 24:37, Emily Gillingham placed 103rd at 25:19, Abby Schotter was 109th at 25:38, while Kristen Weber also scored points with an 111th time of 25:47.
Southwest Minnesota State will next compete in two weeks at the NCAA Central Region Championships in Joplin, Mo., on Nov. 17.
