SMSU ATHLETICS: Reiss, Dicke named to the Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District teams

MARSHALL – Southwest Minnesota State University senior outside hitter Taylor Reiss was named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® 7 team released on Thursday. The selection and announcement was made by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

District 7 is made up of member schools from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), the Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) and the Great American Conference (GAC).

Reiss, who earns the award for the second straight season, was one of seven selected to the all-district team.

A native of Taunton, and a 2015 graduate of Minneota High School, Reiss carries a 3.38 GPA in exercise science. Named the Conference Commissioner’s Association (CCA) Central Region Player of the Year for the third straight season on Wednesday, Reiss is also a three-time NSIC Player of Year honoree.

Reiss has recorded 644 kills with a .310 hitting percentage this season, while also recording 386 digs and 69 blocks. In the latest NCAA Division II statistics (Nov. 11), Reiss ranks first in kills, first in kills per set (5.8), first in points per set (6.51), first in attacks per set (14.5) and second in total attacks (1,612).

Reiss will now advance to the CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, where first and second team All-Academic honorees will be selected next month.

Jon Dicke

SMSU senior football defensive lineman Jon Dicke was named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Super Region 4 team released on Thursday.

Super Region 4 is made up of member schools from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), the Lone Star Conference (LSC), the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC).

Dicke was one of five defensive linemen named to the 27-member team.

It’s the second straight year, Dicke, a native of Rochester, who carries a 4.0 cumulative GPA in exercise science, has been named Academic All-District. He was also named CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2017, becoming just the fifth SMSU football player to earn CoSIDA Academic All-American honors in program history.

This season, Dicke started all 11 games for the Mustangs and finished seventh on the team with 42 tackles with 5.5 for loss and two sacks.

Dicke will now advance to the CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, where first and second team All-Academic honorees will be selected next month.
