NSIC MEN’S BASKETBALL: SMSU drops opener

MARSHALL - A late second-half run helped Emporia State defeat Southwest Minnesota State 83-74 on Friday.

The Mustangs held a 64-57 lead with 8:17 remaining, but the Hornets went on a 26-10 run the rest of the way to seal the win.

Ryan Bruggeman led SMSU with 18 points and seven assists, while becoming the program’s career assist leader.

SMSU will host Fort Hays State this afternoon at 4 p.m. at the R/A Facility.
