BURNSVILLE – Southwest Minnesota State senior Taylor Reiss was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Offensive Player of the Week announced on Monday afternoon. This recognition is her second this season and her eighth overall in her career.

Reiss, a native of Taunton, and a 2015 graduate Minneota High School, recorded 71 kills in SMSU’s 11 sets played last week. Her 31 kills against the Mustangs’ five-set loss to Sioux Falls last Tuesday the most in an NSIC match this season. She averaged an NSIC best 6.45 kills per set and .377 hitting percentage. Reiss has recorded 1,942 career kills with six matches remaining of the regular season.

In addition to receiving NSIC Offensive Player of the Week, Reiss was also previously named AVCA Player of the Week announced on Sept. 25. Reiss was also named the NSIC Preseason Player of the year, she is the reigning two-time NSIC Offensive Player of the Year and last season’s American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Player of the Year. She was also named to the 2017 NSIC Volleyball All-Tournament team.

Reiss has moved into the top-five spot in all-time school rankings in five categories. She currently is in second for kills with 1,942. The leader, Erin Contons, who graduated in 2007, leads with 2,494. Reiss is third in points per set with 5.50, second in points with 2,194.5, third in attack attempts, 4,749, second in kills per set with 4.87. She also ranks eighth in attack percentage, recording a .311 career attack percentage and eighth in service attempts with 1,471.

SMSU (15-7, 10-4 NSIC) returns home for four-consecutive home matches. Starting off with a home matches against MSU Moorhead on Friday at 6 p.m. and Northern State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
