SMSU CROSS COUNTRY: Aidrus places 15th in first race of 2018, SMSU competes at Roy Griak Invitational

FALCON HEIGHTS – The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s and men’s cross country teams both competed at the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday morning held at Les Bolstad Golf Course and hosted by the University of Minnesota.

The SMSU women’s team finished 18th out of 22 teams in the Maroon Division II race, while the SMSU men’s team placed 13th out of 15 teams in the Maroon Division II race.

Kayla Jansky led the Mustang women’s team with a 100th place finish out of 192 runners in the 6,000 meter race recording a time of 25:26. Skyler Jacobson recorded a 120th finish with a time of 25:52, with Emily Daniels crossing the line at 26:10 to place 130th. Avery Lester ran 26:25 to finish in 135th, Emily Gillingham crossed in 145th place with a time of 26:41, Abby Schotter finished 152nd at 26:58, Kristin Weber was 155th at 27:10, while Meghan Sullivan placed 158th at 27:18.

For the SMSU men’s team, 2017 All-American Bashir Aidrus made his first appearance of the season and finished the 8,000 meter race with a time of 26:41 to place 15th out of 158 runners. Dylan Pierson finished in 76th place with a time of 27:36, while Brett Attenberger crossed in 98th place with a time of 28:20. Clayton Hartle finished 109th at 28:37, John Wyatt Reece was right behind in 110th at 28:40, while Ben Broze recorded a 112th finish with a time of 28:42. Kaden Cameron ran 29:31 to finish 130th, Andrew Nordquist crossed the line at 30:57 for 144th, while Isaac Fischer was 151st with a time of 33:25.

Both SMSU teams return to competition on Oct. 13 at the Wisconsin-LaCrosse Invite.
