JUNIOR LEGION BASEBALL: Marshall Junior Legion takes fifth at Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA – The Marshall Junior Legion baseball team earned a fifth place finish at the Alexandria tournament over the weekend. Marshall Black fell to Alexandria 7-4 but took down Sleepy Eye 14-0 in five innings on Saturday before closing out the weekend with an 11-3 win in five innings over Worthington on Sunday.

Against Alexandria, Zach Olsen led the way for Marshall Black with a pair of hits while Peyton Grant and Brayden Hilgemann each added a hit and Trey Steinbach recorded an RBI.

Steinbach took the loss on the mound, going 5.1 innings while Grant tossed the final 1.2 innings.

Against Sleepy Eye, Dillon Loft led the way for Marshall Black with a 3 for 3 day at the plate with three RBI while Conner Roth, Olsen and Jacob Hughes all had a hit.

Logan Terfehr earned the win on the mound, going five innings while allowing one hit.

Against Worthington, Kaleb Welvaert led the way with a 2 for 4 day at the plate with two RBI while Steinbach added a pair of hits and an RBI and Grant had a hit and two RBI. Jack Bly and Jordan Mernaugh each chipped in a hit as well.

Matt Hmielewski earned the victory on the hill, going five innings while allowing three runs on four hits and striking out three.

Marshall Black (12-4) will face Tracy today at 6 p.m.
