VFW BASEBALL: Marshall 15U Orange baseball takes second at Belle Plaine tournament

BELLE PLAINE – The Marshall 15U Orange baseball team took second place in the Belle Plaine tournament over the weekend, defeating Hibbing 19-1 in four innings, St. Peter 2-1 in five innings, Belle Plaine 6-0 before falling to South St. Paul 6-2 in the championship game.

Against Hibbing, Marshall Orange broke out the bats right away, scoring 10 runs in the first before adding five in the second and four in the third.

Spencer Wambeke, AJ Toulouse and Braden Meyer all led the way with two hits and two RBI apiece while Chase Douglas, Cole Felcyn and Mitchell Bouwman all added two RBI.

Brock Schultz earned the victory on the hill, going one inning while allowing no runs on no hits and striking out one.

Against St. Peter, Marshall Orange took an early lead in the third at 1-0 before St. Peter tied things up at 1-1 in the top of the fifth. Marshall Orange responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth to earn the victory.

Douglas, Jacob Hughes, and Schultz all led the way with two hits each while Hughes and Schultz picked up an RBI.

Schultz earned the victory on the hill, going five innings while allowing one run on two hits and striking out three.

Against Belle Plaine, Douglas led the way with a 2 for 4 day at the plate with two RBI while Hughes, Josh Baker and Jaden Pearcy added a hit and an RBI.

Baker earned the victory on the hill, going six innings while allowing no runs on five hits and striking out eight.

Against South St. Paul, Marshall Orange held an early lead at 2-1 after three innings, but South St. Paul came back with five unanswered runs to earn the victory.

Felcyn and Spencer Wambeke led the way for Marshall Orange with a hit and an RBI each while Baker added two hits and Douglas had a hit as well.

Felcyn took the loss on the hill, going five innings while allowing three runs on 10 hits and striking out one.

Marshall 15U Orange will play in the Sioux Falls Central Plains Shootout tournament on June 22-24.
