PREP BASEBALL: Five Tigers earn All-Conference honors for baseball

MARSHALL — The Big South Conference announced its all-conference baseball team on Monday and a few Marshall players made the list.

Jake Hess was the lone Marshall senior named to the all-conference team. Hess batted .309 this year, with 16 RBI and 13 runs scored. He also struck out 21 batters in 33.2 innings and recorded a 2.29 ERA.

Joining Hess on the all-conference team are juniors Isaac Schmitt, Jackson Hughes and Cody Greve.

Hughes led the Tigers with a .429 average, driving in 14 runs and scoring 18 runs. Greve finished with a .403 average, 19 RBI and 20 runs. Schmitt finished with 19 RBI and 18 runs scored, to go along with his .397 average.

Marshall sophomore Kaleb Welvaert was an honorable mention, batting .294 with 10 RBI and 14 runs scored. In 24.2 innings pitched, Welvaert struck out 22 batters and finished with a 2.84 ERA.

The Tigers finished with an overall record of 14-6 under head coach Chace Pollock. Marshall fell to the New Ulm Eagles in the first round of the Section 2AAA Tournament before defeating the Worthington Trojans and the Mankato East Cougars with a pair of shutouts. The Tigers then fell to the Mankato West Scarlets in the semifinal round.
