MARSHALL — The home team couldn’t get the bats going, as Albany defeated Marshall 7-2 to open the Wood Bat Classic on Friday.

Marshall tallied just two hits in the game. Kaleb Welvaert went 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored, while Cody Greve was 1 for 1 with an RBI.

Welvaert took the loss, allowing seven runs (four earned) on 11 hits over 5.2 innings, while striking out seven batters.

Marshall will continue round robin play this morning against Minneapolis Post 1. First pitch from Legion Field is set for 9:30 a.m.
