On the boys side, Mason Plante led the way with a 36 while Spencer Ehlers shot 39, Noah Puetz had 42, Landon Frost had 44, Tannyr Curry had 51 and Michael DeVaan had 57 to round out their scores.

Marshall boys coach Kari Ehlers said the meet was a good confidence builder for their team and everyone had good moments throughout their rounds.

“The meet was a good confidence builder for our team. Their course had fast and tiny greens and it’s definitely advantageous to know the quirks that it presents. Mason had a stellar round of 36. His consistent play including two birdies was fun to watch,” coach Ehlers said. “Spencer carded a 39, Noah a 42 and Landon had 44. Noah and Landon both thought their way very well around the golf course. They each had one problem hole that they’d like to take back, but all in all great rounds.”

On the girls side, Ana Schwarz led the way with a 42 while Olivia Peterson shot 47, Kaylee Gossen and Megan Kock each had 48, Ashtyn Eben had 51 and Rachel Schwarz had 54 to round out their scores.

“The greens were firm and fast and we struggled to adjust. Ana turned in a good round and was able to get up and down to save par on four holes,” Flynn said. “Jackson has a difficult course and a par 38 for the girls, so it was a good challenge for us heading into the second part of the season.”

Fairmont Invite

FAIRMONT – The Marshall girls golf team took first place at the Fairmont Invite on Saturday, shooting a team score of 332.

Ana Schwarz led the way with an 80 while Olivia Peterson shot 81 and Kaylee Gossen had 85. Ashtyn Eben shot 86 while Megan Kock had 90 and Rachel Schwarz had 97 to round out the scores for Marshall.

Tigers coach Gretchen Flynn said she was pleased with how her players had a strong finish to their rounds and that their ball striking has improved with each meet.

“The girls put together some solid rounds to post their lowest score of the year in a tournament that is a Big South Conference preview,” Flynn said. “We had a slower start than we wanted but the girls all picked up their games on the back 9, especially Ana turning in a 37 and Olivia a 38. Ashtyn turned in her second best tournament round of her high school career. Our ball striking continues to improve and the girls were hitting fairways and keeping their balls in play. The greens were faster than we have seen this year and got faster as the day went on and they adjusted well during their rounds.”
