SMSU TRACK AND FIELD: Mustangs have strong outing in Iowa Western Spring Classic

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – The Southwest Minnesota State outdoor track & field teams had a strong showing at the Iowa Western Community College Spring Classic on Saturday.

Highlighting the day for the SMSU women’s team was freshman Rebecca Manteuffel, who set two school records on the day. She won the shot put with a record throw of 12.72m and won the discus with an NCAA Division II provisional toss of 45.47m. She also placed third in the hammer with a mark of 45.33m.

Angela Prokosch smashed her own school record in the hammer with a 48.72m throw to record a first place finish.

For the men’s team, Isaiah Nelson captured first place in the long jump at 6.33m

Ashanti Payne placed third in the discus with a personal best toss of 43.41m, while Josh Behning finished fourth at 42.79m.

Behning also recorded a personal best 49.76m in the hammer to finish in fourth place.

Southwest Minnesota State returns to action on April 6-7 at the NSIC/MIAA Open in Maryville, Missouri.
