SMSU GOLF: Mustangs in sixth after round one of NSIC Championships
SMITHVILLE, Mo. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s golf team opened the first round of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships on Friday, shooting a 55-over-par 343, and is currently in sixth place in the 12-team, 54-hole championship held at Paradise Pointe-Outlaw Course.
Minnesota State is the first round leader following a 25-over 313 and is eight shots ahead of Augustana (321).
MSU’s Maddy Messin sits atop the leaderboard with a 3-over 75, holding a two-shot lead over two players.
Lauren Kerr shot SMSU’s low round on Friday with an 11-over 83 and is tied for 14th in the 58-player field. Ashley Bixby shot a 13-over 85 to sit in a tie for 20th place, while Hannah Kohls carded a 15-over 87, good for a tie in 26th. Hallie Will is tied for 29th following a 16-over 88, while Christina Collins sot a 24-over 96 and is tied for 47th.
The championship will continue this morning with tee times starting at 9 a.m.
The final round is set for Sunday at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
