PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Knights break out bats in 13-1 win over Adrian

ADRIAN – The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton baseball team opened up its season with a 13-1 victory over Adrian in five innings on Tuesday.

After neither team could find scoring in the first two innings, the Knights started the scoring with a run in the top of the third. RTR then broke out the bats in the next inning, scoring 10 runs to take an 11-0 lead.

Adrian would get on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom half of the fourth, but the Knights scored two more runs in the top of the fifth to earn their first win of the season.

Corbyn Sitzmann led the way for RTR with a 2 for 2 day at the plate while also driving in three runs and also scoring a pair of runs of his own. Hunter VanLerberghe went 1 for 4 with 2 RBI while Cooper Hansen added a 1 for 3 day with an RBI and a run scored.

Jake Fischer picked up the win on the hill for RTR, going four innings while allowing just one run on one hit while striking out four.

RTR (1-0) will face Lac qui Parle Valley on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

RCW 7, TMB 6

SACRED HEART – The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton baseball team fell to Renville County West 7-6 to start the season on Tuesday at Sacred Heart.

RCW jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the top of the first. TMB answered back, though, scoring three runs of its own in the bottom half of the third to cut the deficit to one after three innings.

RCW would then add a pair of runs in the next inning but the Panthers scored two runs of their own in the fifth to stay within one. The Jaguars would score a run in the top of the sixth to take a 7-5 lead, and TMB cut it to one again in the bottom half of the frame, but couldn’t find the tying run before falling 7-6.

Jake Tauer led the way for TMB with a 1 for 1 day at the plate with two runs scored and three walks while Sawyer Otto also went 1 for 1 with a pair of walks. Tyler Timm added a 1 for 4 day with a double to the TMB effort.

Luc Gervais took the loss on the hill for the Panthers, going three innings while allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out one. Moses Dolan pitched the final four innings, giving up four runs on four hits while striking out three.

TMB (0-1) will face Yellow Medicine East on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

SIOUX FALLS – The Canby baseball team defeated Dawson-Boyd 9-6 on Tuesday.

After a scoreless first, the Blackjacks scored four runs in the bottom of the second, highlighted by an Alex Swenson grand slam, to take an early lead. The Lancers would get on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth, scoring three runs to cut it to 4-3.

Dawson-Boyd would take the lead back in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of runs, but the Lancers answered with three runs apiece in the sixth and seventh innings to earn the victory.

Swenson led the way for the Blackjacks with a 2 for 3 day at the plate and 4 RBI while Nick Thompson added a 2 for 5 day with an RBI.

Swenson took the loss on the hill, going 4.2 innings while allowing two runs on four hits while striking out 11.

Evan Stoks and Nolan Harding led the way for Canby with two hits and 3 RBI apiece while Kalib Greenman, Tyler Sayre and Tyler Kack each added two hits each.

Jordan Ries picked up the win in relief for the Lancers, going five innings while allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out five.

Canby will face Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. while Dawson-Boyd will face Minneota on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

DANUBE – The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton softball team swept Renville County West in a doubleheader on Tuesday night. The Panthers defeated the Jaguars 17-1 in the opener before winning 8-3 in the nightcap.

In the opener, Sydney Lanoue led the way for TMB with a 3 for 3 day at the plate and four runs scored while Evy Dolan went 2 for 4 with two runs and Dakota Rolling went 1 for 2 with three runs.

Lanoue earned the victory in game one, going five innings while allowing one run on two hits while striking out five.

In the nightcap, Lanoue went 1 for 2 with a run while Brooklyn Ludeman also went 1 for 2 with a run. Lanoue earned the win in the circle in game two, going four innings while giving up three runs on three hits and striking out four.

TMB will face Lac qui Parle Valley on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
