SMSU TENNIS: SMSU stops skid with 6-3 victory over Seton Hill
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Southwest Minnesota State women’s tennis team snapped a five-match losing streak with a 6-3 victory over Seton Hill University (Pa.) on Tuesday afternoon at the USTA National Campus.
SMSU (4-8) picked up three points in singles as Hannah Starke recorded a 6-3, 6-0 win over Kaitlyn Walch at No. 4 singles, while Paige Janka picked up a straight set, 6-4, 6-1 win against Caitlynn Hirak at No. 5 singles. Jenna Gannott won by forfeit at No. 6 singles.
With the match tied at 3-3 following singles play, SMSU’s No. 1 doubles squad of Cora Delich and Gabby Tellijohn trailed 3-0 and 7-6 in its match versus Jenna Bailey and Cameron Beer, before rallying for a 9-8 (7-3) victory. SMSU’s No. 2 doubles team of Starke and Paige Janka also won, 8-6, while the No. 3 doubles team won via forfeit.
Seton Hill drops to 4-5 on the season.
Southwest Minnesota State returns to the court today with an 8 a.m. CST match at Webber International University (2-5) in Babson Park, Florida.
