SMSU TENNIS: SMSU steps out of NSIC play with trip to Florida
MARSHALL – The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s tennis team takes a break from Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play next week with five matches in Florida during the team’s annual spring break trip.
SMSU (3-6, 1-5 NSIC) will open its trip this Sunday with a match versus Rockhurst University (Mo.) in Orlando beginning at 2 p.m. (CST) at the USTA National Campus.
The Mustangs will then play at Eckerd College (Fla.) in St. Petersburg on Monday, March 5, starting at 8 a.m. (CST), before facing Seton Hill (Pa.) on Tuesday, March 6, in Orlando at the USTA National Campus with a 2 p.m. (CST) start.
SMSU will then battle Webber International (Fla.) on Wednesday, March 7, at 8 a.m. in Babson Park, before closing the trip with a match versus Northwestern College (Iowa) on Thursday, March 8, starting at 9:30 a.m.
Freshman Cora Delich leads the team this season with five victories at No. 2 singles and also has three wins at No. 1 doubles. Freshman Olivia Watzke has recorded three victories at No. 4 singles, while sophomore Hannah Starke has picked up two wins at No. 3 singles. Sophomore Paige Janka has a team-leading five combined wins playing at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
SMSU returns to conference play on March 24 in Sartell, Minnesota, facing Minnesota Duluth.
