SMSU TENNIS: SMSU opens Florida trip with loss to Rockhurst
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Southwest Minnesota State women’s tennis team opened its spring trip with a 9-0 loss to Rockhurst University (Mo.) on Sunday at the USTA National Center.
SMSU, which drops to 3-7 overall, lost in straight sets in five of six singles matches. Cora Delich lost a tough 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3) in No. 2 singles to Samantha Czarnecki.
At No. 2 doubles, SMSU’s Hannah Starke and Paige Janka led its match, 5-4, but Rockhurst rallied back to secure an 8-6 victory.
SMSU’s No. 1 doubles team of Delich and Gabby Tellijohn and its No. 3 doubles of Gabby Potthoff and Olivia Watzke, both lost matches by scores of 8-2.
Southwest Minnesota State returns to the court on Monday with an 8 a.m. CST match at Eckerd College at Fred Bullard Courts in St. Petersburg.
