SMSU TENNIS: SMSU closes Florida trip with 8-1 victory over Northwestern College
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Southwest Minnesota State women’s tennis team closed out its spring trip to Florida with an 8-1 victory over Northwestern College (Iowa) on Thursday at the USTA National Campus.
SMSU, which improves to 5-9 overall, swept through doubles play as Gabby Tellijohn and Hannah Starke earned an 8-2 victory at No. 1. SMSU’s No. 2 team of Cora Delich and Olivia Watzke won 8-1, while Gabby Potthoff and Paige Janka cruised at No. 3 with an 8-2 victory.
In singles play, Gabby Tellijohn earned a hard-fought 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (11-9) win at No. 1, while Cory Delich picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2. The Red Raiders (2-8) won at No. 3 singles, but Hannah Starke recorded a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4, Paige Janka earned a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5, while Jenna Gannott picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6.
Southwest Minnesota State returns to Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play on March 24 versus Minnesota Duluth in Sartell.
