SMSU GOLF: Mustangs return to play with spring trip

MARSHALL – The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s golf team returns to action this week to open the 2018 spring season with a pair of tournaments in Las Vegas, Nevada, before hosting the annual SMSU Spring Invite in Litchfield Park, Arizona, on March 12-13.

SMSU will first compete in the three-team Minnesota State Maverick Invite today at the Mountain Course at Angel Park in Las Vegas.

On Friday and Saturday, SMSU will play in the 36-hole, 11-team Minot State Beaver Invite at Aliante Golf Club in Las Vegas.

The six-team SMSU Spring Invite will be held on March 12-13 at the par-72, 5,806-yard, Heritage Course at Wigwam Resort. Tee times for both rounds will begin at 9:30 a.m. (CST) each day. Schools competing along with SMSU include Bemidji State, Lindenwood, Nebraska-Kearney, Sioux Falls and Truman State.

SMSU last competed on Oct. 9-10, 2017, at the Midwest Classic in Warrensburg, Missouri.

Senior Ashley Bixby leads SMSU with an 80.8 stroke average in eight rounds, while freshman Hannah Kohls is second on the team with an 83.8 average. As a team, SMSU has a stroke average of 334.6 in eight rounds.
