SMSU WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: SMSU to host final home games versus Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul

MARSHALL – Southwest Minnesota State gets set to host the final two games of the 2017-18 regular season as they welcome Minnesota State to the R/A Facility on Friday night at 6 p.m., followed by Saturday’s regular season finale and Senior Day against Concordia-St. Paul beginning at 5 p.m.

SMSU Quick Hits

– SMSU gets set for its final NSIC games of the 2017-18 regular season with rematches against CSP and MSU.

– Caleigh Rodning currently ranks in the NSIC’s top-10 in rebounding, free throw percentage, and ranks 13th in scoring.

– Abuk Akoi tied an SMSU single-game record with seven blocked shots against U-Mary.

– SMSU will honor its pair of seniors on Saturday in the final home game of the season vs Concordia-St. Paul.

– Minnesota State netted a season-high 14 3-pointers against the Warriors.

– Claire Jordan averaged a team-best 19.0 points per game last weekend.

– Jordan posted a game-high 21 points and shot 83.3 percent (5 of 6) from downtown against Winona State.

– Kirstin Klitzke averaged 12.0 points per game last weekend.

– Taylor Klug averaged 10.5 points per game last week with 14 points against Upper Iowa to go along with a career-best four steals.

Series History

– Minnesota State leads the all-time series, 40-17.

– The Mavericks have won 22 straight games over SMSU dating back to 2004.

– SMSU last defeated Minnesota State, 74-61 in a nonconference game in 2004.

– SMSU is 4-21 against the Mavericks in conference games and 9-15 all-time against MSU in home games.

Concordia-St. Paul Team Notes

– 2016-17 Record: 19-10, 15-7 NSIC

– 2017-18 Record: 9-17, 6-14 NSIC

– The Golden Bears had their first 2-0 conference weekend of the season to finish off their 2017-18 home schedule last weekend.

– The Bears allowed the fewest points (49) in any game all season against Winona State.

– CSP’s offense was especially active against Upper Iowa, tallying 34 field goals and 12 3-pointers, both season highs for CSP.

– CSP will travel to face Sioux Falls on Friday night before taking on SMSU this Saturday.

– Anna Schmitt averaged 21.0 points on the weekend, while shooting 50 percent from the floor last weekend.

– Lindsay Dorr was solid on both ends of the floor for the Bears last week, averaging 20.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.

Series History

– CSP leads the all-time series, 37-16 with 12 straight wins dating back to December of 2011.

– The Mustangs’ last win over CSP was a 60-55 victory in Marshall during the 2011-12 season.

– CSP has won 27 of 28 and 33 of 35 which dates back to 2006.

– SMSU won 12 straight games over CSP from the 1986-87 season through the 2001-02 season.

– SMSU dropped both games to CSP by less than four points last season and lost a heart-breaker in overtime back in January as the Golden Bears hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to steal the win.

– Hedlund moved into fifth all-time in career rebounds last weekend and is tied for sixth in free throws made (313) and tied for third in free throws attempted (489).
