NCAA BASEBALL: Marshall native Hmielewski picks up first hit in Gophers victory over Boston College
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — The University of Minnesota defeated Boston College 14-1 on Friday in its opening game of the Snowbird Classic.
Gophers starting pitcher Reggie Meyer worked the first five innings, allowing no runs on three hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
With Minnesota holding a 13-0 lead entering the ninth inning, Marshall High School graduate Drew Hmielewski entered the game as a pinch hitter. He lined a single to left field and would later come around to score, finishing his debut 1-for-1 with a run scored.
Minnesota (3-2) will continue Snowbird Classic action today against Chicago State, with first pitch slated for 2:30 p.m.
