SMSU WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL: Mustangs to play in Kansas this weekend

MARSHALL – The Southwest Minnesota State University wheelchair basketball team, after more than a month break, returns to action this Friday and Saturday with four games in Wichita, Kansas.

SMSU, 4-7 overall, last played on Dec. 1-2, losing four games in Whitewater, Wisconsin.

The Mustangs open play on Friday facing the University of Missouri at 8 a.m., before taking on Edinboro University (Pa.) at 11:30 a.m. On Saturday, SMSU faces Texas-Arlington at 8 a.m., before closing play at 11:30 a.m. versus the University of Alabama.

SMSU lost its only meeting with Missouri and Alabama earlier this season and has split a pair of games with Edinboro. SMSU and UTA will be meeting for the first time this season.

Jesus Villa is the team’s leading scorer through 11 games at 21.3 points per game, Ryan Kile is averaging 10.9 per game, while Matthew Talbot is scoring 10.7 points per game. Villa, who has connected on a team-leading 29 3-pointers, also leads the team in rebounding with 7.6 per game.

As a team, SMSU is averaging 55 points per game and shooting 40 percent from the field.
