PREP WRESTLING: Marshall topples JCC, Worthington in triangular

MARSHALL – The Marshall wrestling team continued its winning ways and undefeated start to the season with a convincing triangular sweep over Jackson County Central and Worthington on Thursday evening. The Tigers defeated the Huskies 64-11 before taking out the Trojans 39-25 to stay undefeated.

Against JCC, Conner Roth got things started with a major decision victory before Hsa Khee Lar (113 weight class) and Lucas Hodges (126 weight class) won with pins while Hsa La Eh (120 weight class) won by forfeit to give Marshall a quick 22-0 lead.

After the Huskies earned back-to-back victories, the Tigers responded with pins from Grant Louwagie (5:10) and Jackson Hughes (14 seconds) to take a 34-6 lead. Zach Stahl (170 weight class, Fall 3:32), Wyatt Martin (182 weight class, forfeit) and Jaiden Bahr (195 weight class, Fall 1:06) all earned victories for Marshall before Zack and Cole Felcyn closed out the match with fall wins as well.

Against Worthington, the Tigers got on the board thanks to a pair of wins from Khee Lar and La Eh before a major decision victory from Noah Jensen gave Marshall a 14-12 lead. The Tigers then got victories from Louwagie, Hughes and Sterner to increased their advantage to 27-18.

Marshall would then close the match with wins from Stahl, Bahr and Zack Felcyn to earn its first victory over Worthington since coach Justin Bouwman took over the program.

Marshall will compete in the Big South Tournament on Saturday.
