SMSU FOOTBALL: SMSU junior Jon Dicke named CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American

AUSTIN, Texas – Southwest Minnesota State University junior football student-athlete Jon Dicke on Tuesday was named to the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America® First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.

Dicke is the 20th SMSU student-athlete in school history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors and just the seventh to earn first team accolades. SMSU has recorded 13 CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors since 2009.

Dicke, a native of Rochester, carries a 4.0 cumulative GPA in exercise science. This season, Dicke started all 11 games for the Mustangs and finished seventh on the team with 44 tackles with 1.5 for loss and one sack. He also had two pass break-ups. He is a two-time Academic All-NSIC honoree and has played in 32 career games recording 69 tackles.

Dicke was one of four defensive lineman named to the first team and was one of just eight among 26 first team honorees with a 4.0 GPA.

Senior quarterback Ty Reasnor from Arkansas Tech University earned the Academic All-America® of the Year award for Division II football.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America® honors honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
