PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Area teams wrap up at Redwood Riots tournament

REDWOOD FALLS – Multiple area teams wrapped up the two-day Redwood River Riot wrestling tournament on Saturday at Redwood Valley High School. Marshall placed third with a team score of 117, followed by Wabasso/Red Rock Central in sixth (111.5), Tracy-Milroy-Balaton-Westbrook-Walnut-Grove in eighth (102.5), Canby in 11th (92), Dawson-Boyd-Lac qui Parle-Montevideo United in 12th (90) and Fulda-MCC in 32nd (4).

Canby

Jaden Kindopp (182) earned a third place finish by decision while Evan Stoks (195) also placed third by fall and Josh Hansen (285) placed third by decision to lead the way for Canby.

Dawson-Boyd/

Lac qui Parle/

Montevideo United

Trevon Johnson (132) placed fifth by decision while Peyton Mortenson (182) placed first by decision and Austin Schmitt (195) placed second by decision. Sam Henriksen placed sixth by decision to add to the United effort.

Fulda/MCC

Danny Blankenship (126) lost by fall in the second round of the consolation round while Christian Kuball (138) lost by fall in the first round of the consolation round to lead the way for Fulda/MCC

Marshall

Hsa La Eh (120) placed fourth while Jackson Hughes (152) placed sixth by fall and Wyatt Martin (182) placed fourth by decision. Zach Stahl (170) placed fourth by decision and Jaiden Bahr (195) placed sixth by fall to lead the way for Marshall.

TMB/WWG

Ayden Horner (106) placed fourth by decision while Levi Ellingson (120) placed eighth by major decision and Dereck Ellingson (126) placed third by decision. Trevor Eisfeld (170) placed third by decision while Austin Buchholz (195) placed fourth by fall to lead the way for TMB/WGG.

Wabasso/RRC

Mason Irlbeck (106) placed second by decision while Jared Schroepfer (160) placed third by decision and Nick Altermatt (170) placed first by decision. Isaac Schmiesing (220) placed third by decision to add to the Wabasso/RRC effort.

Frazee Duals

FRAZEE – The Minneota wrestling team fell to Frazee 38-21 and Perham 58-9 before picking up a 36-30 win over Pierz on Saturday in the Frazee Duals.

Against Frazee, Jonah Gruenes, Kade Lozinski won by fall while Austin Kloos, Shawn Buysse and Trent Esping won by decision to lead the way for Minneota.

Against Perham, Teddy Pesch won by decision while Esping won by fall for the lone wins for Minneota.

Against Pierz, Gruenes, Eric Carrasco, Cole VanOverbeke and Esping all won by decision while Pesch and Kloos won by forfeit and Buysse won by fall to lead the way for Minneota.

Minneota will face Fulda/MCC and Redwood-River Valley on Thursday at 5 p.m.

SLAYTON – The Murray County Central boys basketball team fell to Pipestone Area 65-30 on Saturday.

Mason Woldt led the way for the Rebels with eight points while Noah Boerboom, Tyler Groves and Spencer Wajer added five each. Groves led in rebounds with five.

MCC (4-3) will face Mountain Lake Area on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

WASECA – The Marshall girls hockey team defeated Waseca 7-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers got the scoring started in the first period when Olivia Peterson found the back of the net before Rachel VanKeulen made it 2-0 Marshall on a short handed goal on the assist from Kaitlyn Timm.

Marshall then broke out the scoring barrage in the second, as Sydney Mauch recorded a hat trick in the just the period alone to give the Tigers a 5-1 lead. Waseca had scored after Sydney’s first goal to cut the defict to 3-1.

The Tigers then added goals from Jadyn Briffett and Courtney Mauch in the third period to earn the six-goal win.

Marshall (3-6) will face Mankato East/Loyola on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

WASECA – The Marshall boys hockey team defeated Waseca 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Marshall got the scoring started early when Tristan VanDeVere found the back of the net on the assist from Chase VanDeVere to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

After neither team could find scoring in the second period, Marshall broke open the scoring in the third, as Bryson Whyte scored just 46 seconds into the frame to make it 2-0. The Tigers then got goals from Chase VanDeVere and another one from Tristan for the shutout victory.

Marshall (6-3) will face Fairmont on Thursday at 7 p.m.
