MARSHALL – The Marshall gymnastics team posted its highest score of the season on Friday night in their home opener. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough, as the Tigers fell to Worthington 143.525-124.475.

Saphi McFarquhar led the way for Marshall with a third place finish on the uneven bars (8.400), a fourth place finish on the floor exercise (9.000), a fifth place finish on the balance beam (8.025) and a third place finish in the all-around (33.975). Taliya McFarquhar earned a fourth place finish on the all-around (31.100) while Mikayla Chesley placed fifth in the all-around (29.500) to add to the Marshall effort.

Marshall coach Larvita McFarquhar said she was pleased with her team’s effort throughout the meet.

“It’s a very good feeling. I’m very proud of the girls, they worked hard,” coach McFarquhar said. “They are working very hard in the gym and are doing their best and that’s all I can ask of them.”

Coach McFarquhar added their key during the meet was sticking their rountines and making sure all the fundamentals were smooth.

“Going out there and sticking their routines as well as being clean,” she said. “Making sure their lines are in the right position, toes are pointed, legs are straight and their head is up.”

Marshall will face Ortonville on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
