SPECIAL OLYMPICS: Marshall Area Special Olympics team competes at state bowling meet

MANKATO – The Marshall Area Special Olympics team competed in the state bowling meet on Nov. 12 in Mankato.

In the singles competition, Brian Bakker (77-99-176), Roberta Gitz (86-78-164), Jenny Ross (88-60-148), Marissa Davis (99-77-176), Andrew Waltz (121-99-220), Leah Skaar (98-92-190 and Kari Groebner (137-136-273) all took gold while Deb Pochardt (61-53-114), Cara Simpson (56-70-126), Rebekah Oakland (80-74-154), Sami Hey (58-94-152), Stacy Rieke (87-51-138), Dave Marron (71-91-162), Gail Schepker (85-86-171) and Danica Caldwell (130-87-217) all took silver.

Sabrina Polfliet (77-95-172), Monica Thooft (72-80-152), Nathan Giefer (77-78-155), Lisa Picht (84-99-183), Ashley Eick (110-59-169), Allen Polzin (115-77-192), Derek Wacek (102-93-195) and Dustin Wacek (88-116-204) all took bronze. Jeremy Hibl (59-65-124), Nick Finnegan (51-54-105), Joseph Boerboom (86-79-165) and Amy Wiger (123-124-247) all took fourth.

In the doubles competition, Polfliet (87-96) and unified partner Elizabeth Breyfogle (58-54) (total 295), Waltz (71-123) and partner Barb Roberts (116-122) (total 432), Marron (65-107) and partner Greg Marron (256-167) (total 585) and Tommy Clark (67-78) and partner Julie Clark (80-109) (total 334) all took gold. Gitz (59-45) and partner Tacy Hill (81-90) (total 275), Davis (112-77) and partner Terry Davis (88-152) (total 429), Dustin Wacek (85-118) and partner Macy Mara (95-78) (total 376) and Wiger (113-96) and partner Blayne Christensen (121-162) (total 492) all took silver.

Picht (100-103) and partner Diane Rush (57-68) (total 358), Bakker (75-89) and partner Kevin Gorden (140-119) (total 423) took bronze. Skaar (61-91) and partner Taylor Rush (42-75) (total 269), Derek Wacek (116-120) and partner Briana Rasmussen (60-107) (total 403), Hibl (66-78) and partner Max Louwagie (124-70) (total 338), Mike Smishek (60-58) and partner Danna Smishek (106-127) (total 351), Thooft (70-83) and partner Steve Rush (170-123) (total 466) and Kari Groebner (100-107) and partner Veronica Groebner (99-140) (total 446) all took fourth. Polzin (75-119) and partner Travis Estes (100-80) (total 371) took fifth.
