Catholic youth participate in mission trip to Montana
Nineteen teenagers and adults from the Christ the King Area Faith Catholic Churches of Lake Benton, Ivanhoe, Tyler and Wilno attended the Catholic Heart Work Camp from July 12-19 in Billings, Montana.
CHWC provides parish youth groups, teens and adult leaders service opportunities to restore homes through painting and construction projects, work with children at day care centers, help elderly and disabled, and offer assistance at local food banks and social agencies.
The camp offers daily service projects, live music, inspirational programs and daily Mass. The local parish youth group and leaders spent the week providing various service projects, working together with other youth groups from New York, Michigan, Wisconsin, Montana, Washington, and Iowa. As a finale, a celebration event took place with local residents and community service agencies to highlight the work completed that week, the hours of work valued at about $60,000 for the week. Various adult leaders and youth described the CHWC as "awesome," "terrific week," "hard work," "loved helping the residents" and "fun." Several students hope to go again next summer.
