Tyler VFW team edged by Worthington, 7-6

After taking a 5-0 lead, the Tyler VFW team witnessed Worthington score seven runs over three innings en route to a 7-6 win on Monday in Wilmont.

Tyler scored five runs in the top of the fourth and held the lead for just a half inning. In the bottom of the fourth Worthington tied the game on five runs of their own.

Brandon Verly started on the mound for Tyler, receiving a no-decision after allowing five runs over 4 1/3 innings of duty. Verly walked six and struck out four.

Steve Snow relieved Verly and ultimately took the loss, allowing a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Tyler plated a lone run in the top of the seventh, but fell short in its comeback. Snow had a strong night at the plate for Tyler, finishing 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Dain LaRock also mashed three hits and drove in two runs. Tyler had 10 hits for the game.

Now 4-4 for the summer, Tyler will be back in action on Thursday as it hosts Granite Falls for a league game.

Vikander leads Granite Falls Legion team past Minneota

Austin Vikander was a one-man wrecking crew as he drilled two doubles, a triple and a home run while leading the Granite Falls Legion baseball team to a 10-3 win over Minneota Monday night in Minneota.

Vikander's four hits were part of an 11-hit night for Granite Falls, which scored four runs in the top of the third and five runs in the sixth to maintain control throughout the game.

Dylan Johnson tossed a complete game for Granite Falls, striking out six, walking one and allowing three runs.

Alex Guttormsson started and took the loss for Minneota, giving up eight runs (five earned) over 5 1/3 innings pitched. Mike Dwire entered in the sixth and went the rest of the way for Minneota.

Justin VanKeulen's double was the only extra base hit for Minneota, which totaled six hits in the game. Guttormsson and Josh Bot each drove in runs in the game.

Minneota (0-4 overall) will continue its search for the first win on the summer in its next contest at Dawson on Thursday.
