Despite giving up just one earned run in its doubleheader against Concordia-St. Paul on Thursday, the Southwest Minnesota State baseball team was swept by scores of 1-0 and 3-2 against the Golden Bears. The pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games were played at Minnetonka High School.

Brandan Alfson pitched a six- inning complete game for the Mustangs, allowing just one run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Alfson was effective, throwing just 79 pitches while allowing only two hits and striking out four.

Zach Rengel allowed just one hit in 6 1/3 innings of duty for Concordia, fanning seven Mustangs in the process. Griff Kilber recorded the two-out save.

SMSU mustered just one hit in the game, off the bat of Kyle Young, but walked five times. A pair of walks and a hit by pitch loaded the bases for SMSU, but Kilber got Jordon Kontz to hit a deep fly ball for the game's final out.

The Mustangs sprayed seven hits over nine innings in Game 2, scoring the game's first run in the top of the first inning. Kontz drove in Jon Ellis after a lead-off double.

Freshman Travis McGlauflin got the start for the Mustangs, allowing an unearned run in the bottom of the first before giving up a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth. McGlauflin struck out four, walked one and allowed six hits over 7 2/3 innings. Dylan Shoemaker relieved McGlauflin with two outs in the eighth.
