Five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning carried the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton baseball team to an 8-6 victory over Yellow Medicine East in their season opener Friday.
The Panthers took advantage of six YME errors, including three in the fifth inning alone, to score eight runs on just five hits. Parker Lanoue, who allowed two runs in his four innings of pitching duty, had the lone extra-base hit for TMB with a double.
Jordan Lanoue picked up the win on the mound for the Panthers (1-0 overall), allowing four runs in the final three innings. He also struck out five YME batters.
Austin Vikander was credited with the loss for the Sting, though he pitched just one inning. Conor Christensen had a double for one of YME's four hits in the game. The Sting scored five of their six runs as the result of five TMB errors.
YME (0-1) is back on the diamond on Tuesday for a home game against Paynesville in Granite Falls. The Panthers, meanwhile, host Redwood Valley on Monday in their next contest.
