To the editor:
Emma Thompson once said, "Any problem, big or small, within a family always seems to start with bad communication."
I am a parent of two children, a 13-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl. It is so easy for miscommunications to happen between family members or in conveying messages between school and home. I am always seeking out ways to enhance our relationships and engage my kids in conversation.
On Tuesday, March 19, the United Way of Southwest Minnesota and a host of amazing additional sponsors will offer four free presentations titled, "Top 20 Training: Guiding Our Children Through Life's Challenges." There is a seminar from 4-5:30 p.m. for teachers and coaches and a second open for all community members from 7-9 p.m. at Marshall High School. Two presentations will also be given at the Minneota Public Schools which will be webcast for area schools to view either live or at a later date.
This will be a wonderful opportunity for us to come together and learn tools for finding communication success within our families. This presentation will equip us with the skills and strategies needed to help develop the positive potential within our children.
We are so blessed to live in an area where so many organizations would give generously to make an event like this possible. So many conferences and presentations charge admissions fees and require travel, but this is so close to home. I would highly encourage everyone to take advantage of the opportunity given and attend this event. I look forward to seeing you all there.
