WILLMAR - Services are Arvid H. "Max" Maxwell, 81, of Willmar will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be at a later date.
He died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at his home in Willmar.
Arvid Howard "Max" Maxwell was born March 22, 1931, in Marshall, the son of Samuel and Anna (Kofoot) Maxwell. He grew up in the Marshall area and graduated from Milroy High School in the class of 1949. Max entered the United States Navy where he served his country during the Korean War. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1954. He was united in marriage to Nancy J. Vetter on Jan. 5, 1954, in Marshall. The couple lived and farmed in rural Marshall until 1967. They moved to Willmar where Max worked for the MN State Highway Department, retiring in 1997.
Max was baptized at the Presbyterian Church in Marshall. He was a member of the American Legion Post 167, V.F.W. Post 1639, Willmar Rifle and Pistol Club, N.R.A. and National Wild Turkey Federation.
Max enjoyed being outdoors: hunting bear, deer and turkey; gardening or camping. He and Nancy served as camp hosts for Fort Ridgley State Park.
Arvid is survived by his wife Nancy Maxwell of Willmar, Rodney (and Julie) Maxwell of Atwater, Connie Maxwell of Brenham, Texas, Dawn (and Chuck) Anderson of Waseca, Pam Maxwell of Willmar and Lori (and Louie) Boros of Willmar; 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
