‘Jacks, Vikings, Dragons pave way in All-LSC football picks

Finishing in a three-way tie atop the Little Sioux Conference, Dawson-Boyd, Minneota/Lincoln HI and Adrian each had a league-high five all-conference selections for the 2012 season, the LSC announced in a release on Tuesday.

The three teams all finished the season with 6-1 conference records.

Dawson-Boyd, which advanced to the Class A state tournament semifinals and finished with an 11-2 record, had four seniors and a junior selected to the all-conference squad. Senior Brandon Schmitt piled on LSC accolades, earning all-conference honors, the LSC Most Valuable Offensive Lineman and Defensive Lineman of the Year awards, as well as the conference's Mr. Football nomination.

Dawson-Boyd senior running back Justin Lee and senior linebacker Garth Ochsendorf were All-LSC selections, with Lee earning the co-Most Valuable Offensive Back award and Ochsendorf being named the co-Most Valuable Defensive Back. Also earning all-conference honors for the Blackjacks were senior receiver Nathaniel Huot and junior quarterback Joey Lee.

For Minneota/Lincoln HI, which finished the season 9-2 and advanced to the Section 5A championship game, there were two seniors, two juniors and a sophomore who earned All-LSC nods. Running back Jeff Gladis and quarterback Austin Buysse both made the team as juniors and were joined by senior tailback Isaac Josephson and senior center/linebacker David Noyes. Sophomore linebacker Alec Engler was the youngest Viking to make the team.

Minneota/Lincoln HI head coach Chad Johnston was named the LSC's Coach of the Year, and the Vikings' Matt Myrvik was picked as the Assistant Coach of the Year.

The Canby Lancers went 6-4 during the 2012 season, including 5-2 in conference action. Senior Wyatt Kraus was one of the top rushers in the state this season and earned LSC co-Most Valuable Offensive Back honors. Senior linebackers Tate Citrowske and Austin Campbell were also on the list for the Lancers, along with junior receiver Michael Slaba.

Murray County Central and Tracy-Milroy-Balaton each went 3-4 in the conference, and each got three all-conference nods. Running back Jack Thony, linebacker Devin Miranowski and Ben Loosbrock made the team for the Rebels, while quarterback Parker Lanoue, halfback Alec Swan and linebacker Austin Peterson were chosen from the Panthers' squad.

Finishing 1-6 in the conference, Russell-Tyler-Ruthton had one player earn all-conference honors in quarterback Shay Wabeke. Lakeview defensive lineman Spencer Larsen was also chosen as an all-conference player for the Lakers, who finished 0-7 in LSC play.
