MARSHALL - There were three contested races, but only one new candidate elected to the Lyon County Board this year. Incumbent candidates Steve Ritter and Rodney Stensrud were re-elected in County Commissioner Districts 2 and 4, while Charlie Sanow won over longtime commissioner Bob Fenske in District 1. Unofficial vote totals Tuesday night showed Sanow was the winner in a close race against incumbent candidate Fenske. Sanow had 1,043 votes and Fenske had 966 votes.

Sanow said Tuesday that he was honored and thankful "to have the opportunity to serve the community of Marshall and Fairview Township."

Sanow is currently a member of the Marshall City Council but is planning to move outside the city, which would make him ineligible to serve on the council.

In District 2, unofficial vote totals showed incumbent Steve Ritter won with 1,425 votes, and challenger Jeanine Barker received 911 votes.

"It's been an honor and a pleasure to serve the people," Ritter said Tuesday. He said he also wanted to thank voters for giving him their confidence as a candidate. Ritter said he would work to keep Lyon County on its current path and keep spending in check.

In District 4, vote totals showed Stensrud won with 1,686 votes against candidate Jerry Bottelberghe, who received 785 votes.

"I would like to thank everyone who voted for me," Stensrud said. He said he would do his best to work toward county goals, including maintaining public infrastructure.

County redistricting meant all five Lyon County commissioner seats were up for election on Tuesday. Incumbent candidate Rick Anderson ran unopposed in District 5 and received 2,113 votes. Incumbent Mark Goodenow also ran unopposed in District 3 and received 2,058 votes. Goodenow had originally planned not to run again for county commissioner but filed for re-election when no challengers came forward to run in District 3.
