Hispanic Independence Month celebration is Thursday
A Hispanic Independence Month celebration will take place from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, in the upper level of the Student Center at Southwest Minnesota State University.
The event will celebrate the independence of Belize, Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Mexico.
The Ballet Folklorico Mexico Azteca dance group will be the featured performers for the event. Salsa lessons will be offered to the audience, and free food will be provided.
There will be an after party for SMSU students from 8-10 p.m. in the Conference Center Ballroom.
Hispanic Independence Month activities are presented by the SMSU Club Latino and sponsored by Access, Opportunity and Success and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
Eric Vincent concert is Oct. 2 at SMSU
French singer and songwriter Eric Vincent will give a performance at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, in Charter Hall 217 at Southwest Minnesota State University.
Vincent is an internationally acclaimed musician whose career spans decades. His name has appeared on marquees in more than 140 countries. He has toured the U.S. extensively and has performed at a number of prestigious venues, including the Brooklyn Auditorium in New York City, the Opera of Hanoi in Vietnam and the Opera of Manaus in Brazil. He lives on a houseboat on the Seine River in Paris.
In addition to his busy concert schedule, Vincent has become involved in a worldwide project started by schoolchildren in the small French town of Bonchamp to oppose violence in children's programming on television.
His appearance at SMSU is sponsored by the SMSU French Club and the Student Activity Fee Allocation Committee.
