My first thought when I heard about the woman in Washington, D.C., who rammed into the barricade was “battling depression” was “go battle your depression somewhere else—don’t take down innocent people with you.” It was a kneejerk reaction to all these nutcases killing people.
Her mother said the woman had postpartum depression. The child in the car was about a year old. That’s a long time to be suffering. I wonder if she was getting help. It apparently wasn’t very effective. It seems like what she did was an over-the-top cry for help.
What she got was a bullet. I realize she had to be stopped, but it’s sad that there is now another motherless child in the world.
I wonder if mental health facilities should be better funded so they can help people before they go to extremes.
