Add a little more kindness

United Way of SW Minnesota

The sign above my desk reads, “We Rise by Lifting Others.” I apply this wisdom in both my personal and professional life by trying to be kind, gracious, respectful and supportive to others. Signs with different sayings have become very popular over the last 10 years. Have you ever thought about why you have selected a certain saying to keep in your office or home? What does it mean to you?

On Nov. 18-22 United Way of Southwest Minnesota (UWSWMN) along with other United Ways throughout Minnesota will be taking part in United Acts of Kindness Week to promote volunteer engagement and encourage kindness to others statewide. Consider doing at least one act of kindness during this week. Various ideas for kids, families, schools and workplaces are available on our website.

November is looking to be extra kind!

Jumpstart Read for the Record is happening on Nov. 7 at schools, libraries and childcare centers throughout our service area. This event is held annually and coordinated locally by UWSWMN. It just so happens that this year’s book, “Thank You, Omu,” is about the power of generosity, kindness and a neighborhood coming together.

Volunteers are needed to read to help set a world record by reading the same book on the same day. Limited reader slots remain. To sign up, visit our website at UnitedWaySWMN.org and click on the blue “Volunteer” tab.

November is shaping up to be a great month … join us and let’s add a little more kindness to southwest Minnesota.
