Hurry up!

When’s the last time you had someone tell you to hurry up?

Over the years, I’ve heard that admonition many times. Naturally, it wasn’t that I was late for anything, but that the other person didn’t know what they saying and to whom they were saying it. I was always on the ball — don’t ask my family about that because you’ll hear a whole different story.

However, I must share this factual story. Back in the day when we lived on the farm, the school bus would arrive at our lane about 7:45 every morning. I can’t tell you how many times I had to yell at my two younger sisters to hurry up and get to the end of the lane or the bus would leave without us. Once again, don’t ask those two sisters about that because you’ll hear another whole story rather than my factual one.

At a recent event, I was asked to pour the wine for the attendees. Being a good person, I agreed for this tough duty. I quickly set up the wine boxes and waited for my clients to arrive, place their order, and then I would fill their glass with the preferred wine, and all’s good. Naturally, it was only proper for me to hurriedly sample the wines to ensure they were good. Once again, doing my duty for humankind!

The wines being sampled were two Franzia box wines. One was their Sunset Blush — a Rosé — and the other wine was their Moscato. The Sunset Blush had noticeable raspberry tastes while the Moscato had pleasing apple and pear flavors. Both sweet wines were good but the Moscato was far and away the most popular choice. Folks flocked to the wine and laughs prevailed.

Well, it’s holiday season and this is the time of the year when time really flies. You must be in a hurry to get your turkey and all its dressings or the grocery shelves will limit your choices. You must get your cards mailed. Hurry up! Thanksgiving is just around the corner! And then, the big one — Christmas! If you are like the rest of us, you have so many things to accomplish before that day. Maybe family gatherings to arrange. The food menu, and the beverage menu. The gifts and for whom. The travel arrangements, and the list goes on and on. You best hurry up and get at it because, before you know it, the New Year celebrations will be in you face.

Maybe that’s why a quiet coffee chat is a good thing. That coffee shop is where you can relax a bit, and catch up on your friend’s activities. However, don’t dawdle too long! There’s a lot to get done in a short time.

Maybe that’s enough of the pressure to hurry. I’m going to relax with a glass of Sangiovese wine, and enjoy its soft cherry flavors.

Then, I must get off my tail and hurry into the rest of the day!

May you always find time to relax in the midst of hurriedness.

As always, eat and drink in moderation, but laugh with reckless abandon!

Cheers!
