On the Porch

In the Dec. 7, 1917, edition of the News Messenger of Lyon County, a few letters from men serving in the armed forces were published. The letter below was written by A.L. “Louis” Robinson to the Red Cross Organization in Marshall:

U.S.S. South Carolina, co N.Y.P.M, N.Y., N.Y. 9th Division, Nov. 25, 1917. Red Cross Organization, Marshall, Minnesota.

Dear Friends at Home:

It gives me great pleasure in writing this letter to express my thanks to you folks for the remembrance you have sent me. received the neat little box of dainties and useful articles last evening and I cannot express in words how I enjoyed them. The best little article, which I certainly enjoy and will take care of, is the New Testament and I will cherish it all thru my cruise. Hope all of us boys will have a chance to come back and thank you for your kindness to us while serving good old U.S.

Will you please read this letter at the next meeting of the chapter as I wish to thank them all. Hope you folks have a joyful Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas and that the New Year brings many pleasures to all. Am sure the good Lord will watch over us and bring us all back to our dear ones. Thanking you again for your kindness and with best regards to all, I am, Yours, A.L. Robinson.
