My Year in Review

Around the end of the year (it’s already near the end of the year? eek!), Facebook creates a video for you (if you’re on Facebook) called “A Year in Review.” Mainly it takes photos you or your friends have posted on your timeline and makes a one-minute video.

So on Thursday afternoon on the day everyone was sharing their video, I looked at mine. It starts off with a message saying “another trip around the sun.” The first photo on my video is one I posted for “Throwback Thursday.” It was of me in a costume that was created for WDSE-TV’s birthday club. The year was 1993, and I was interning for the public television station in Duluth. The costume was a mostly blue creature, with a red stomach, dubbed Bluether. In the post I said, “think generic ‘Sesame Street.'” The main job was to wave to the kids as their names were announced. It was just one of the things I did for that internship, which was mainly promotional writing. I and another intern wrote press releases for such shows as “Venture North” and “Almanac.” I still have a few of those press releases, and I noticed that one of the releases was sent to the newspaper in Granite Falls. Who knew that six years later, I’d be working full time near the area.

The next photo is of my friend Sharron and I at the Twins game a group of us went to. It was extremely hot that day (but not as hot as it was in Marshall). The game was tied until the 10th inning when Max Kepler hit a home run. A lot of fun, but boy was it warm.

The third photo was of me in front of the Headwaters of the Mississippi marker at Itasca State Park. My hair was uncombed as we were camping and well, I just didn’t care. I was experiencing a new-to-me state park, and it soon became one of my favorites.

Up next was my attempt at making art with a Painting Party the Marshall Fine Arts Council put on back in September. The object was to paint a sunflower. What I learned is that I need more practice and patience. Hope MAFAC continues to do this activity.

A series of photos of me and Ross was briskly shown in the video –at Wood Lake Battlefield, at the Japanese Garden in Sioux Falls, at the lookout tower in Garvin Park. Then there is me in front of an antique tractor at the Pioneer Power Threshing Show in Hanley Falls as well as holding up a photo calendar created by John G. White I got at the Arts Meander.

According to the video, I liked 206 things. I’ll admit that I scroll through my newsfeed quickly and am a little picky when I “like” things.

The video ended with a photo Ross took of me at Camden. The fall colors were still in some of the trees, and I actually liked my smile in the photo. Good job Facebook, I liked my video.
