Letters urged district to support all learners

To the editor:

“The truth is that you are a gift to the community . . .” these words were addressed to the LGBTQ+ youth in the Public Foum article (8/14/21), “A gift to the community.”

Yes, every life is a gift. The lyrics to a song from my most treasured Book read:

“For you (O Lord) created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. Your eyes saw my unformed body.”

I have been accused of “spewing hate,” “devaluing the existence of LGBTQ+ people”, and having “biogoted views” although I have not said anything hateful about the LGBTQ+ community.

God speaks of every life as a gift and so do I. I trust God to direct how I should live to His glory and for the benefit of others.

Some may not believe God exists or find some of His commands un- reasonable. Still, His love for us never fails. When we sin, He offers forgiveness and encouragement to sin no more.

Whether we agree in our beliefs or not, everyone deserves to be treated with equal respect and kindness.

My only purpose in writing over 15 letters in this Public Forum space has been to speak for the inclusion of all youth in carrying out the Marshall School District’s mission statement ” to support all learners” in our public schools.
