Short Takes
In the pursuit of peace and quiet
THUMBS DOWN:
A camper from the Twin Cities was looking for a “peace and quiet” tenting experience during the Fourth of July weekend. The camper, Kathy Murphy, went before the Murray County Board of Commissioners this week to complain about noise coming from a band playing across the lake at a nearby bar and restaurant. The camper found out through a series of phone calls that the bar had a permit for live music for the weekend. It’s unfortunate Murphy was disappointed with her camping experience. However, the Fourth of July weekend might be the wrong time to be looking for “peace and quiet.”
Making a difference in the community
THUMBS UP:
Good luck to Aaron Ziemer in taking over the open Marshall Public Schools Board seat that became vacant after Dion Caron resigned to take over the business director’s position with the district. Ziemer was appointed to the board this week. His term will expire in January and the seat is up for election in November. It’s good to see a citizen step up and volunteer time to serve the school district.
A lot of deals for Marshall shoppers
THUMBS UP:
Crazy Days in Marshall got off to a slow start on Thursday thanks to a morning thunderstorm. But by mid-morning, the sun was shining on Marshall. The rain apparently scared off some merchants of displaying merchandise outside, there were still a lot of deals inside stores throughout Marshall. And the kiddie parade got off without a hitch.
