Joan Van Lerberghe

WOOD LAKE — Mass of Christian Burial for Joan Van Lerberghe, 86, of Wood Lake, will take place at a later date.

Joan Kathleen (DeRider) Van Lerberghe was born on July 6, 1934, in Russell, to Charles and Alice (Ossen) DeRider. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Russell. On October 14, 1950, she was united in marriage to Raymond Van Lerberghe at St. Clotilde Catholic Church in Green Valley. They lived on a farm near Cottonwood until 1962 when they moved to a farm near Wood Lake. Joan enjoyed helping on the farm and tending to her garden. After her children grew up, she and Ray foster parented many children and hosted two foreign exchange students. She later worked as a home health aide and volunteered as a First Responder in Wood Lake. She was an active member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Granite Falls and served on the parish council and as a high school religion teacher. She and Ray enjoyed traveling to different countries (Belgium, Russia, Spain, Equador, Mexico and Africa) and throughout the United States. They also enjoyed spending time with friends and family.

Joan died on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud due to COVID 19. She is survived by her children Allen Van Lerberghe of Wood Lake, Linda (and Jack) Loch of Sauk Centre, Brad (and Marlys) Van Lerberghe of Wood Lake, Sandra (and Steven) Naab of Marshall, Diane (and Craig) Milbradt of Marshall, Pam (and John) Keltgen of Carver and Trudy (and John) Cariveau of Cambridge, 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, sister Bonnie Thooft of Tyler and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Greg and husband Raymond.
