Dale died June 28, 2020.

Dale LaVern Bartz was born May 4, 1941, to Harold and Elvera Bartz in Wheaton. Dale graduated from Browns Valley High School in 1959. He attended Northern State College in Aberdeen, S.D., and received a degree in education in 1965.

Dale was united in marriage to Diane Ziemer on Dec. 21, 1963. They were fortunate to share 56-1/2 years together. The couple was blessed with two sons, Todd and Ty.

Dale taught in Howard, S.D., where students and faculty voted him Teacher of the Year. He also coached town ball in Howard and took the team to state in his first year of coaching.

Dale boasted that he held over 100 different jobs in his lifetime, all in pursuit of providing for his family. A few of these jobs worthy of mention include rock picker, farmhand, brick layer, gas station attendant, house mover, bus driver, teacher of social studies, history and drivers education, coach, insurance salesman, chauffeur and painter.

Dale’s passions included….his family, especially teaching and cheering his sons on in baseball, football, basketball and golf, to practicing kicks and twirls with his granddaughters preparing for dance recitals. He enjoyed sports (Go Twins!), Wednesday card playing with his comrades, cars (especially his black 1958 Ford Galaxy Fairlane and classic Grand Prix; Dale kept his cars spotless and always had clean wheels), Friday night chicken, cocktail hour with Diane, neighborhood chats, teasing his grandchildren at every opportunity, and sharing freezies and daycare happenings with Beckett (3 y/o neighbor). Dale was a friend to everyone. He enjoyed the art of conversation covering a variety of topics, some of which he knew nothing about. Dale was well liked by young and old alike.

Upon his retirement he enjoyed being Todd’s #1 sales assistant and Ty’s sales mentor. His drivers education experience benefited two of his granddaughters in teaching them how to master the road.

Dale is survived by his wife, Diane and two sons: son, Todd and wife, Kim Bartz of Plover, WI, their daughters Jessica (Kevin) and Arika, Jessica and Kevin’s children, Mia and Virgil, and son, Ty Bartz of Chaska and his twin daughters, Ava and Brooklyn; siblings, Delores Lehrke and Vernon (Patty) Bartz; numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Elvera, three brothers, Carman, Arvin, and Harlyn, and one sister, Audrey.

Diane and family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to Preston and Crystal for their quick response and assistance during our time of need.
