Jane Hennen

April 13, 1939-May 10, 2020

MARSHALL — A private funeral service for Jane Hennen, 81, of Marshall, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. A public Memorial Mass will take place at a later date. Jane died on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10, 2020, at the Prairie Home Hospice Lockwood House in Marshall.

Jane Marie (Verkinderen) Hennen was born April 13, 1939, to Henry and Mary (Nuytten) Verkinderen. She was born in Tracy, baptized, made her 1st communion, and was confirmed at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. Jane went to grade school at St. Eloi Catholic and graduated from Central High School in 1957 where she enjoyed band and cheerleading. Jane worked as an office manager for Dan Rowe Construction for three years. She married Ernest Hennen on Nov. 25, 1959, at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent, and the couple farmed by Ghent until 2000 when they moved to their house in Marshall.

Jane was an active member of St. Eloi parish where she was an officer, guild member, taught religious education, and distributed communion at masses and for the shut-ins. She was a board member for the American Cancer Society for many years and Chairwoman of the Daffodil Days in Lyon County for 10 years. Jane was very active in Relay for Life and was a team organizer for the “Belgian Cookie” team. In 1985, she went to work part-time in Minneota for Roger VanMoorleham CPA and later worked for Hoffman & Brobst in Marshall until 2015.

Jane enjoyed cooking, baking, making Belgian cookies, and playing cards with her family and friends. Jane and Ernie loved to travel especially going to Ohio and North Carolina to spend time with their children and grandchildren. The couple also went to visit her extended family in Belgium along with their trips to the Caribbean, Hawaii, Alaska and Rome. Most of all, Jane was the happiest spending time with her family and going to her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities as she was so proud of all of them.

Jane is survived by the love of her life of 60 years, Ernie, and four children, Janet (Greg) Differding of Minneota, Rhonda (Jeff) Buysse of Minneota, Brian (Lisa) Hennen of Bellbrook, OH, and Marc (Cheryl) Hennen of Greensboro, N.C.; grandchildren Justin (Kari) Differding, Nikki (Tony) Traen, Jordan (Pat Cassidy) Differding, Beau (Kelsey) Buysse, Brock and Brant Buysse, Tanya (Zach) Guess, Monica and Cassi Hennen, Isaac, Abby and Joey Hennen; great-grandchildren Morgan Lyon, Gannon Differding, Brisbyn and Audyn Traen and Beckett Buysse; sister-in-law Catherine Verkinderen and brother-in-law James Cattoor; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary Verkinderen, brothers Joe and Daniel (Arlene) Verkinderen and sister Charlotte Cattoor and infant sister Mary Jane Verkinderen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. Eloi Catholic Church, St. Edward School, Prairie Home Hospice or the Lyon County Relay for Life. Memorials may be sent to Rehkamp Horvath Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1092, Marshall, MN 56258 for distribution to the charity of donor’s choice.
