Richard Van Keulen

GHENT — Mass of Christian Burial for Richard “Dick” Van Keulen, 86, of Ghent, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Rehkamp-Horvath Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will continue from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. Burial will follow at St. Eloi Catholic Cemetery in Ghent.

Richard died Sunday, July 28, 2019, at Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall.

Richard John “Dick” Van Keulen was born March 28, 1933, in Ghent, to Hubert and Martha (Verkinderen) Van Keulen. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. Dick attended grade school in Ghent and graduated from Minneota High School. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army. On June 24, 1957, he was united in marriage to Jean Van Overbeke at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. The couple farmed the family farm in Ghent for 10 years. Dick worked for the Schwan Food Company for 30 years retiring in 2000. Dick was very social and looked forward to time with friends and family. He enjoyed playing rolle bolle or having coffee with friends at the Ghent Town Hall. He also enjoyed following the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He was fond of tending to his yard and vegetable garden.

He is survived by his wife, Jean, of Ghent; son Tim (and Paula) Van Keulen of Ghent; daughters Sandy (and Jim) Nordmeyer of Dayton and Barb (and Tom) Schmitz of St. Louis Park; grandchildren Megan Van Keulen (fiancé Nick Esping), Jade (and Luke) Colby, Matt Van Keulen, Amber (and Brian) Stuart, Brooks Nordmeyer, Isaac, Emily and Olivia Schmitz; great-grandchildren Louis and Miles Stuart; siblings Lorraine (and David) Maertens, Ed (and Rose) Van Keulen; sister-in-law Lois Van Keulen; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marie Rose Boerboom, and brothers Harold, Gregory and Jim Van Keulen.
