Joseph Koopman

ALEXANDRIA – Services for Joseph “Joe” W. Koopman, 40, of Alexandria will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lake Community Church in Alexandria. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will take place with full military honors accorded at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls at 11 a.m. Thursday. Per the family’s request, please wear either Minnesota Vikings or Minnesota Twins attire to his funeral in honor Joe’s love of Minnesota sports. The family prefers memorials. He died Friday, May 17, 2019, of injuries sustained as a result of a car accident near Minneota.

He was born Oct. 3, 1978, to Lyle and Brenda (Coudron) Koopman in Hendricks. He enlisted in the United States National Guard in 1996, continuing his service for the next 20 years. He was deployed twice, once in 2004-2005, to Kuwait and again in 2011-2012, to Iraq.

Survivors include his wife, Chelsey; three daughters, Abigail, Mya and Mataya, all of Alexandria; parents, Lyle and Brenda Koopman of Ivanhoe; two sisters, Corinne Renken of Ivanhoe and Sara Maddox of Lester Prairie; two brothers, Chad Koopman and Ryan Koopman, both of Lake Benton; and maternal grandmother, Aloma Coudron of Marshall.
